A Maxwellian Path to the q-Nonextensive Velocity Distribution Function

چکیده
Maxwell’s first derivation of the equilibrium distribution function for a dilute gas is generalized in the spirit of the nonextensive q-statistics proposed by Tsallis. As an application, the q-Doppler broadening of spectral lines due to the random thermal motion of the radiating atoms is derived. 05.45.+b; 05.20.-y; 05.90.+m Typeset using REVTEX ∗[email protected] †[email protected] ‡[email protected] 1 It is widely known that the thermodynamical or statistical description of nonextensive systems demand a generalization of the usual Boltzmann-Gibbs thermostatistics [1–3]. A few important examples of physical systems or processes where the standard approach seems to be inadequate are self-gravitating systems, some kinds of plasma turbulence, and selforganized criticality. The standard Boltzmann-Gibbs approach is based on the extensive entropy measure

Gravitational Instability and Tsallis ’ Nonextensive Statistics
The concept of Jeans gravitational instability is rediscussed in the framework of the nonextensive statistics proposed by Tsallis. A simple analytical formula generalizing the Jeans criterion is derived by assuming that the un-perturbed self-gravitating collisionless gas is described by the q-parametrized class of nonextensive velocity distribution. It is shown that the critical values of wavel...

The concept of Jeans gravitational instability is rediscussed in the framework of nonextensive statistics and its associated kinetic theory. A simple analytical formula generalizing the Jeans criterion is derived by assuming that the unperturbed self-gravitating collisionless gas is kinetically described by the q-parameterized class of power law velocity distributions. It is found that the crit...
متن کاملNumerical Modeling of Non-equilibrium Plasma Discharge of Hydrogenated Silicon Nitride (SiH4/NH3/H2)
In this work, we model a radiofrequency discharge of hydrogenated silicon nitride in a capacitive coupled plasma reactor using Maxwellian and non-Maxwellian electron energy distribution function. The purpose is to investigate whether there is a real advantage and a significant contribution using non-Maxwellian electron energy distribution function rather than Maxwellian one for determining the ...
متن کاملA nonextensive statistics approach for Langmuir waves in relativistic plasmas
The nonextensive statistics formalism proposed by Tsallis has found many applications in systems with memory effects, long range spatial correlations, and in general whenever the phase space has fractal or multi-fractal structure. These features may appear naturally in turbulent or non-neutral plasmas. In fact, the equilibrium distribution functions which maximize the nonextensive entropy stron...
متن کاملPower law statistics and stellar rotational velocities in the Pleiades
In this paper we will show that, the non-Gaussian statistics framework based on the Kaniadakis statistics is more appropriate to fit the observed distributions of projected rotational velocity measurements of stars in the Pleiades open cluster. To this end, we compare the results from the κ and q-distributions with the Maxwellian. Copyright c © EPLA, 2008 Introduction. – Some restrictions to th...
